About us

MCPC Director Paula Odom

It has been estimated that 43 percent of all women will have at least one abortion by the time they are 45 years old. In the U.S., this adds up to more than 50 million abortions since abortion was legalized in 1973.  With an estimated 1.2 million abortions each year, it is likely that the number is as high as 53 million to date.

Numbers this high are a call to action for Christians to help reverse these trends. At the Mid Cities Pregnancy Center, we recognize that the answer to this call must come on an individual level. We reach out to those most vulnerable in the abortion crisis – at-risk women and their unborn children – by meeting them one on one with compassion and without judgment.  Women come to us in their time of crisis, and we serve them through free counseling, education, medical services and practical support. We are here to help women find answers with an objective and compassionate perspective, and we show them they are not alone.

Since we opened our doors 27 years ago, we have had more than 73,000 ministry opportunities and have seen an average of 70 people accept Christ per year. In 2010 alone, we saw 148 people accept Christ and 122 babies born; 96 percent of our abortion-vulnerable clients had a change of heart to carry their baby after seeing their ultrasound in our North Richland Hills and Irving clinics.

Please explore our Web site to learn more about the services we offer and how you can join us in providing hope, support, truth, and the grace of the gospel to those facing unplanned pregnancy situations in the metroplex.

Because a life is worth saving,

Paula Odom, MA, L.P.C.
Executive Director, MCPC

History

The Mid Cities Pregnancy Center began in 1984 as a ministry of First Baptist Church Euless. It was one of the first evangelical, life-saving outreaches for women across the metroplex in crisis pregnancy situations. From the beginning, the center has been a place where women can hear about God’s grace in a free and confidential peer-counseling setting. Since opening its doors, the center has welcomed more than 73,000 women, and nearly 19,000 babies have been born as a result of the truth and support shared inside. We have seen an average of 70 women a year place their faith in Christ at our center, choosing life for themselves as well as for their unborn children.

We meet the needs of our clients while sharing the gospel with those receptive to hearing. Our services have expanded from peer-counseling and free pregnancy tests to include medical services, parenting classes, sexual integrity programs, sexual abuse support groups, post-abortion counseling, and discipleship programs for new believers.

We began performing free ultrasounds in 1999 under the license and supervision of our Medical Director, Dr. Donna Kolar, OB/GYN. A grant from Focus on the Family gave us our first ultrasound equipment to begin this life-saving program. Since that time, we have administered more than 650 free ultrasounds, showing our clients a “window to the womb” and the life within. After hearing the heartbeat and seeing their baby on the sonogram, 96 percent of our clients make a choice for life.

The addition of ultrasound technology raised our status to medical clinic, necessitating our move from a ministry of First Baptist Church Euless to a separate 501 (c)(3) organization. Today, the center is blessed by an even broader base of church support and involvement from our community and is supervised by a Christ-centered board of directors.

In 2009, the Mid Cities Pregnancy Center opened a satellite center in Irving, one of the largest metropolitan cities previously without a life-affirming pregnancy center. With another grant for an ultrasound machine, we began offering sonograms shortly after opening our doors. The Lord has blessed us with increased capacity to reduce the estimated 20,000 abortions performed each year in the metroplex by reaching out to those women who believe they have no alternative.

Purpose

The Mid Cities Pregnancy Center is here to help women find answers. For those facing an unplanned pregnancy, we offer an objective view that close friends and family may not be able to give. Women owe it to themselves to get the facts; we owe it to them to share the truth. We provide accurate education on abortion and alternatives, and our services are totally free and completely confidential.

Our center works to champion life in our community; we do this by encouraging abstinence in youths and singles, sharing accurate education to those faced with unplanned pregnancy, illuminating decision-making through the medical technology of ultrasound, and helping men and women heal who have been impacted by past abortions.

Reality

According to the Guttmacher Institute, at least half of all American women will experience an unintended pregnancy by age 45. At current rates, about one-third will have had an abortion by that age. Fifty percent of those obtaining those abortions are younger just 25 years old or younger – teenagers make up 17 percent. Seventy percent of women obtaining abortions identify themselves as Christian. Women who are single and have never been married obtain two-thirds of all abortions. Since abortion was declared legal in 1973, approximately 53 million abortions have been performed, a number nearly twice the current population of Texas. In the metroplex area, it is estimated that 20,000 abortions are performed each year.

In addition to the lives lost to abortion each year, many women carry the pain of that choice with them, often unspoken and unknown. Abortion can have tremendous spiritual, emotional and mental consequences for not only women who choose to terminate but also their partners, families and other children.

Hope

In the midst of this nationwide abortion crisis, we are a light of hope to women in their critical hour. We show them the truth about abortion, the alternatives of parenting and adoption, and we help them make a decision they can live with. Our ministry exists because of God’s grace, and we share that grace in each peer- counseling and ultrasound appointment. We compassionately offer the hope of the gospel as we affirm life in our centers.

Since we opened in 1984, we have seen nearly 19,000 babies born. Through our clinics, classes and programs, we have welcomed more than 73,000 ministry opportunities. Perhaps most striking is the fact that 96 percent of our clients choose life after seeing their baby through our ultrasound technology.
